Design your own Lupines!

Grab this free download to try this fun and simple activity at home or in the classroom!

This is a fun creative project for kids if you only have a few minutes to spare or you want to add something more to a seed scattering activity.

Here in California it's officially fall, and as such now is the perfect time to scatter some wildflower seeds. Our rainy season really kicks into gear by the end of the month of October, so getting seeds out now will ensure they have the best chance to take advantage of all that rain to come.

In the garden with children, wildflower seed scattering can go a bit quickly, so it's helpful to have something else on hand to really help reinforce the activity, that's where this 10-minute seed fits in perfectly. You'll only need a couple of things and space to work. At the end we had a bucket fill with water where the kids could dunk their hands to wash off the paints.

To set up

  • A plate with a few different colors of washable paint (At the beginning of the year I buy these for the whole year: https://amzn.to/3C8x0hL ) (Or you can get these if you only need a little paint: https://amzn.to/3EoyaIy )

  • Something to write with

  • The lupine coloring sheet

Instructions

The lupines have lost their flowers! Using your finger, dip it in the paint color of your choice and dab it on the paper anywhere you see an empty stem. Once you've filled in all the stems, color your leaves too. Then your brand new flower will need a name, so write yours on the line.
